July 2, 2024 – Mariposa County Health & Human Services officials issue a safety warning on staying safe in rivers and lakes.
Many times the dangers of rivers and lakes are not easily seen with the naked eye.
If you are planning on spending time near the water, make sure to enjoy the rivers and lakes by taking extra precautions to keep your family safe this season:
◾ Ensure all parties utilize well-fitted life jackets, including adults, when near bodies of water.
◾ At no point should a child be left unattended near any body of water, regardless of their ability to swim.
◾ Use the buddy system. Always swim with a buddy.
◾ Avoid alcohol. Avoid drinking alcohol before or during swimming, boating, or other water activities.
◾ Do not drink alcohol while supervising children.
◾ Enjoy the water from the shore.
