July 2, 2024 - Nationwide, there are 50 large wildfires and complexes, 18 are being managed under full suppression strategies. Wildland firefighters credit nifcfirefighters and support personnel in Alaska are working on 33 incidents. Six complex incident management teams and one type 1 incident management team have been assigned or are currently mobilizing to incidents. Approximately 7,800 firefighters and support personnel are assigned including more than 170 crews, 365 engines and multiple aviation resources.

Today we celebrate those that live by the values of duty, respect, and integrity. On National Wildland Firefighter Day we thank every wildland firefighter, support staff, and contractor who work together to protect life, property, and natural and cultural resources. It takes many people with specialized skills and we show appreciation for all of them today. Whether you carry a Pulaski, radio, computer, headset, map, clipboard, or camera to work, we thank you for your service! #ItTakesAllOfUs

It's almost time for the biggest fireworks holiday of the year. Unsurprisingly, every year wildfires are ignited by fireworks. Fireworks have no place on public lands, and even on your own property, must be handled with serious care. Please do your part to prevent wildfires as you enjoy your public lands over the holiday.

The Alaska Interagency Coordination Center's Predictive Services unit and its partners issued a fuels and fire behavior advisory spanning from central Alaska into the northeast Interior to the border with Canada. Peak fire season period is now underway in Alaska, and conditions are expected to worsen under persisting and recurrent hot, dry air masses, combined with the long daylight period. There is already a fuels and fire behavior advisory issued for California that highlights abnormally high fine fuel loading across the state. Residents, travelers, or workers on their ways to these states should be advised and familiarize themselves with the elevated risks.

The national predictive services staff at the National Interagency Coordination Center released the National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook for June through September. For additional information about the current outlook visit the Outlook page on the NICC site

Weather

Alaska is forecast to see a somewhat cooler air mass move in from the northwest. This will keep a chance of showers through the day. The lowest minimum relative humidity is forecast to be around 30% in the eastern interior. For California and the desert southwest, the minimum relative humidity will fall into the single digits, up to around 20% with high temperatures forecast to range from 105 for the Central Valley of California, to 120 in the desert southwest. The Sacramento Valley is also forecast to see breezy conditions out of the north northwest, with gusts of around 30 miles per hour. The Great Basin, and interior Washington and Oregon, are forecast to see highs in the 80s to low 90s, with relative humidity between 10% and 20%. In the Four Corners area, monsoons will be lower coverage as they begin to wind down this week. This will allow for a warming trend to begin. The High Plains in Colorado and Texas are also forecast to continue with highs in the lower 90s for southern Colorado, to around 105 for Oklahoma and a large portion of Texas. The Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles are forecast to have sustained southwesterly wind around 15 miles per hour, with gusts around 30 miles per hour in Oklahoma.
