Suspicious Infant Death Investigation
July 9, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, officers from the Southeast Policing
District responded to a residence in the area of Backer Avenue and Fillmore Avenue for a report of a deceased infant found in their backyard. Officers and EMS personnel arrived and confirmed the infant to be deceased. The residents told investigators they discovered the infant in the backyard, and it is unknown how it ended up in their yard or who it belonged to.
An autopsy was conducted on Saturday, July 6, 2024. The infant was determined to be a female and birthed sometime close to the discovery of her body. Further testing is being conducted to determine the cause of death and if the infant was alive or deceased at birth. Investigators have been following up on leads, but at this time, it is still unknown who the parents are or how the infant ended up at the location. Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance with information regarding this case.
Valley Crime Stoppers has raised the reward amount to $5,000.00 for information leading to the identification of those involved.
