Reckless Driver Lucky to Not Kill Anyone or Himself
July 10, 2024 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that on the night of June 22nd, the driver of a 2020 Chevy Camaro ZL1 flew passed a deputy near Highway 180 and McCall. The deputy activated his lights, but before he could even attempt to make a traffic stop, the Camaro was nearly out of sight. The deputy called for the Air Support Unit to assist. The CHP - Fresno aircraft, AIR 43, quickly arrived to the area and spotted the speeding car.
AIR 43 stuck with the car for six minutes, where it travelled the course of 12 miles, reaching a top speed of 165 mph. The driver ran red lights and made extremely dangerous passing maneuvers. As he blew through the intersection of Church and Cedar in Calwa, he just missed hitting three vehicles, then lost control and crashed.
20-year-old Aaron Campos of Fresno was able to get out of the car on his own and walk away. There he was immediately met by a Sheriff's deputy who took him into custody. Campos was taken to the hospital for complaints of pain and arrested for reckless driving and evading police. The deputy submitted a request to the DMV to have Campos' license immediately revoked.
