July 20, 2024 – Grass Valley, CA – Nevada County Sheriff’s Office officials report that Deputies with the assistance of Grass Valley Nevada County Sheriff Office logoPolice Department, arrested a 19-year-old Grass Valley man early Friday morning, on July 19, 2024, for felony assault and battery after deputies were called to a residence in the 10000 block of Lode Line Way at approximately 2:45 a.m. for an altercation. Upon arrival, deputies located two male victims with injuries sustained in the assault. One of the victims was transported to the hospital for treatment and the other was treated at the scene by medical personnel. Both victims sustained lacerations and contusions to the head and body consistent with being struck with a beer bottle as reported by the victims. The suspect was known to the victims and identified by them as 19-year-old Wilson Carrillo-Matias. The suspect was not at the scene when deputies arrived, but upon an area check, he was located sitting in a vehicle down the street from the residence and detained.

The investigation revealed that the three men involved were acquainted and drinking alcohol together when a disagreement broke out between the suspect and one of the victims, leading to a physical assault involving a beer bottle as a weapon. The second victim attempted to intervene and was also assaulted and injured by Carrillo-Matias. One of the victims began to lose consciousness while first responders were on scene and was transported by ambulance to the local hospital, before being transferred to a Sacramento area hospital trauma center for evaluation and treatment, where he remains in stable condition at this time.

Carrillo-Matias was arrested for 245(a)(1) PC, Assault with a Deadly Weapon; and 243(d)PC Battery with Great Bodily Injury and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.
