High Speed Pursuit Ends at Sheriff’s Office
July 23, 2024 – Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office officials report that early Monday deputies were dispatched to the NASA Airbase near the west side of Stanislaus County following reports of a disturbance. According to the caller who contacted Stanislaus Regional 911, two individuals were in the vehicle, with one of them allegedly brandishing a firearm. The caller provided the license plate of the suspects’ vehicle, which was later determined to have been reported stolen.
Deputies quickly located the vehicle on Crows Landing Road near Fulkerth Avenue. The suspects attempted to evade law enforcement, reaching speeds exceeding 100 mph and driving into opposing lanes.
In a twist of fate, the suspects turned onto East Hackett Road where the Sheriff's Office is located, and the vehicle ultimately collided with a power pole. Both the driver and the passenger fled the scene on foot but were apprehended shortly thereafter. In an ironic twist, the suspect, Angelo Martinez was wearing a jacket that read, "F*** Your Police Department" at the time of his arrest.
The driver, identified as 18-year-old Angelo Martinez from Riverbank, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, evading arrest, reckless driving during a pursuit, and resisting arrest. The passenger, a juvenile, was also apprehended and has been booked into the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall Facility.
