Pedro Fire in Mariposa and Tuolumne Counties Updates for Wednesday, July 31, 2024
10:00 P.M. Update Per CAL FIRE: The Pedro Fire has now spread to 2,727 acres burning in grass and brush. The fire remains 5% contained and exhibits a moderate to dangerous rate of spread. There is an active threat to structures and powerlines, prompting evacuation orders and warnings.
8:50 P.M. Update Per Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office: Evacuation warnings are being issued for Hunters Valley Road and Detwiler Road. The fire is now 2,637 Acres.
The fire is now 5% contained per Incident Commander. The spot fire is 250 acres. The fire is still moving at a moderate rate of spread and structures are still threatened.
8:35 P.M. Update Per Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office: The Red Cross has closed the emergency shelter at New Life Christian Fellowship.

Spot fire on the Hunters Valley side of the Merced River is approximately 20 acres.

Thick vegetation and winds have been challenging for firefighters, but they are making progress on the main fire. Firefighters will continue to prioritize areas of the fire with the greatest threat and will work throughout the night to gain containment.
