August 2, 2024 – John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce its newest board member, Beth Tomsick.

Tomsick’s years of community service, especially those working on committees to secure funding for a new John C. Fremont Healthcare District hospital, make her an excellent addition JCF Tomsickto the Foundation board.

In 2020 and 2022, Tomsick worked on both Measure N and Measure O to gain funding to build a new John C. Fremont Hospital to meet the earthquake standards of the State of California. Tomsick co-chaired Measure O which garnered 69.62% of the vote in 2022. Tomsick is dedicated to seeing the new hospital built and is a passionate advocate for a hospital in Mariposa County.

“The JCF Hospital Foundation is incredibly fortunate to have someone with Tomsick’s skills, knowledge, and dedication join its board,” said Foundation president Heather Bernikoff. “She will be a wonderful addition.”

Tomsick grew up in Western Colorado and attended the University of Colorado where she received a B.A. in French. After college, she studied for one year at the University of Grenoble and spent a second year as a social worker in Lyon, France.

Upon her return to the U.S., Tomsick taught French for three years in Arvada, Colorado. She moved to Mariposa in 1970 with her husband and young son and, when a job opened at Mariposa County High School, she taught French there for 21 years. During that time, she received an M.A. in French from UC Santa Barbara.

In retirement, from 2006 through 2008, Tomsick worked as part of a group to found Habitat for Humanity of Mariposa. When affiliation with Habitat International was achieved in March 2008, Tomsick became Vice President, serving in this position for four years. She then served as Volunteer Executive Director for the non-profit from 2012 to 2016.

Tomsick joins JCF Hospital Foundation board members Heather Bernikoff, president; Jill Harry, secretary; Saralyn Nausbaum, treasurer; Mike Wichmann, events coordinator; and Megan Mickel, brick program coordinator.
