K9 Axel Finds Felony Suspect Hiding in Tree
August 3, 2024 – Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Monday, July 29, 2024, just after 8:00 p.m., Deputies were called to the Iowa Hill area for reports of 39-year-old Nathan Warren making statements that he was going to burn down Iowa Hill. While responding to the area and investigating, deputies discovered Warren was possibly driving a car that was stolen earlier in the day from Colfax.
At approximately 9:50 p.m., the stolen vehicle was spotted on Big Dipper Road. As deputies arrived, a possible suspect was seen running from the back of a home into a heavily wooded area with uneven terrain. Deputy Houston along with his K9 partner, Axel, lead the search alongside multiple deputies.
This video gives a first-hand look at how dark and forested the search area was. K9 Axel was able to detect Warren, following a scent trail that led deputies to a tree where he was about 20 feet up. Warren was compliant, jumped out of the tree and was taken into custody.
Deputies did find shaved keys, mace, meth and drug paraphernalia on Warren and inside his backpack.
Warren was booked on the following charges:
Vehicle Theft
Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
Possession of Controlled Substance
Unlawful Possession of Tear Gas
Possession of Burglary Tools
