August 9, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report that shortly before 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, a husband and wife were in the parking lot near the intersection of Ashlan Avenue and Marks Avenue. A young male, later identified as 19-year-old suspect Johan Beltran, approached them and an argument ensued between the three of them. The argument ended and the husband and wife left the parking lot in their car. Unbeknownst to them, however, Beltran began to follow them in his car.

Around 1:00 p.m., Beltran pulled up next to the couple at Cedar Avenue and Bellaire Avenue and began firing a handgun at them. The husband was struck several times. The wife quickly accelerated away and began driving her husband to CRMC. Once they arrived at the hospital and the husband began to receive medical treatment, the police department was notified.

Felony Assault detectives immediately began working the case. Through surveillance video, detectives were able to identify the suspect vehicle and then identify Beltran as the shooting suspect. Shortly after 5:00 p.m., officers from MAGEC located the suspect vehicle and Beltran was taken into custody.

Beltran has been booked into the Fresno County Jail for felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The male victim is currently at CRMC in critical but stable condition.
