August 12, 2024 – Mariposa County Friday Night Live officials share summer project accomplishment and what a wonderful job was done in the updating of MCHS cafeteria stairs.

Our Friday Night Live team has been working hard throughout the summer! This last project year, our FNL members met up every Friday lunch at Mariposa County High School to plan for our beautification project on campus. After considering the dozens of ideas of campus projects, it was decided that we would paint the cafeteria stairs!

In honor of school spirit, it was decided that the stairs were to be painted green and gold! And that poppies, bear paw prints, and butterflies would be painted on to represent students and staff. But with that… the stairs needed a little more than paint—new boards had to go in too! After some discussion, we found out that one of our member’s uncle is a certified contractor and MCHS alumni! Score!!

After lots of correspondence with the MCUSD Maintenance Department, our partners, and McClure Construction—we got approved!! But the most important approval was our principal and vice principal! So we made a detailed presentation on the process, plans, and partners, and invited them both to an FNL meeting. And they also approved! So thankful!!

Summer break was the time to get the job done, so we’ve had several sessions working on the steps with Josh and team! FNL members helped construct, clean, and paint the stairs. Huge thank you to Josh McClure for being an awesome adult ally and making this happen!

There are a few touch ups happening in the next week, but we are stoked to see them fully green and gold. This was an awesome project and we can’t wait for our MCHS community to see the steps! Phase 2 will be the symbols… stay tuned!
