August 13, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report that shortly before 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, officers from the Southeast Policing District responded to the area of Lane Avenue and Recreation Avenue for reports of shots fired.

Officers found 37-year-old Arnold Ortega suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by officers and paramedics to save him, Ortega succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Detectives learned that Ortega was walking on Recreation Avenue when several males approached him and began assaulting him. One of the suspects produced a firearm and shot Ortega multiple times. The motive for the shooting is currently unknown, and detectives are actively searching the area for witnesses and surveillance footage.
