August 15, 2024 – BAKERSFIELD, CA – California Highway Patrol officials report that Kern County Auto Theft Task Force (KernCATT) detectives locate a stolen vehicle, which resulted in the discovery of a chop shop in Bakersfield and the arrest of two suspects, Israel Cruz, 39, and Edgar Gonzalez, 38.

When KernCATT detectives located the stolen vehicle, the suspect fled on foot into a fenced area. During the pursuit, detectives found a second stolen vehicle being dismantled, with another suspect working on it. Both suspects tried to escape but were quickly apprehended. The suspects were charged with multiple offenses, including operating a chop shop, vehicle theft, possession of stolen vehicles, and resisting arrest.

The Kern County Auto Theft Task Force (KernCATT) consists of detectives from the California Highway Patrol, Bakersfield Police Department, and the Kern County Sheriff's Office.
