Mrs. Jackie Douglass was a devoted teacher at Catheys Valley Elementary for 25 years. She will be honored at Sierra Foothill Charter School on Thursday, September 18, 2014.

Mrs. Jackie Douglass was a beloved teacher at Catheys Valley Elementary for 25 years and a devoted local educator for 30 years. She touched the lives of many students and families who attended Catheys Valley Elementary and other schools in the county.

On May 2, Mrs. Douglass passed away peacefully in her home after a courageous 6 year battle with cancer.

Sierra Foothill Charter School, located in the former CVE school site, will honor Mrs. Douglass for her passion for education and devotion to her students by adding a tree, bench, and plaque for her in its Native Plant Garden. There will be a dedication ceremony at Back to School Night on Thursday, September 18 at 5:30 PM and it will be in the Native Plant Garden on the left side of campus, behind the office and classrooms. The community is invited to attend.

“Many have asked how they can contribute,” said event co-coordinator Jill Harry. “There are a number of ways to do so. One is to donate to help pay for the cost of the tree, bench and plaque.”

Any money received above what is needed will be sent to the Jackie Douglass Scholarship Fund set up by her family at Yosemite Bank. The family will use this money for scholarships benefitting local students. Those interested can also donate directly to this account at Yosemite Bank by contacting the bank for details.

“You could also locate favorite pictures of Mrs. Douglass,” continued Harry. “And write down favorite remembrances. You can send them ahead of time or bring them to the dedication.”

The photos and remembrances will be made into memory books for Mrs. Douglass’ family, the SFCS library, and the Catheys Valley Historical Society archives.

Send donations, pictures, and remembrances to: Sierra Foothill Charter School, 4952 School House Road, Catheys Valley, CA 95306.

“Mrs. Douglass touched a lot of lives,” said Harry.  “SFCS is glad to be able to honor her in this way so that students for years to come can read the plaque and sit on the bench beneath the tree and know what an important part she played in our community.”
