August 16, 2024 – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on August 13, 2024, at about 11:45 A.M., Calaveras County Probation Officers and Sheriff’s Deputies went to the 3000 block of Antonovich Road, Valley Springs, to conduct a home visit. The primary goal of the home visit was to verify compliance with the terms of probation.

During the home visit, deputies and probation officers located approximately 16 grams of methamphetamine, along with various drug paraphernalia, including empty coin-sized baggies and glass smoking pipes. Additionally, a handgun, a rifle, and 60 rounds of ammunition were discovered. The suspects, Benjamin Lawrence Nava, aged 48, and Alvina Ann Nava, aged 49, both residents of Valley Springs, were arrested without incident and subsequently transported to the Calaveras County Jail for booking.

Alvina Nava has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance for sale, while Benjamin Nava faces charges of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition, possession of a controlled substance while armed, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
