Foot Pursuit at Courthouse Leads to an Arrest for Narcotics 

August 18, 2024 – Calaveras County Sheriff's Office officials report that on August 14th, 2024, at about 8:20 A.M., Calaveras County Calaveras County Sheriff logoCourt Security Division deputies responded to a citizen's report regarding a suspicious male in the front court parking lot. The individual was seen looking into vehicle windows and attempting to pull on door handles to check for unlocked cars.

Upon receiving the report, deputies began checking the area for the suspect, eventually locating a person matching the suspect's description in the court parking area. When approached by law enforcement, the suspect attempted to flee on foot towards the government center, located just down the hill. Deputies effectively pursued the individual and detained him without further incident.

Suspect Elliha Zwefield Stalder, age 29 of Arnold, was found to be in possession of 26 grams of methamphetamine. He was subsequently transported to the Calaveras County Jail, where he was charged with possession of narcotics, resisting/obstructing deputies in the performance of their duties and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

The Calaveras County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the alert citizens who notified the deputies of the suspicious behavior. Their actions and the information they provided were instrumental in averting possible property crimes and apprehension of the suspect.
