August 19, 2024 – Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office officials report that this weekend, our K9 team demonstrated their invaluable role in keeping our communities safe.

In one instance, K9 Merlin assisted during a family dispute involving a 17-year-old who was reportedly threatening family members while handling a firearm. K9 Merlin’s search of the individual’s room resulted in the discovery of a firearm, ammunition, magazines, and a holster, all hidden in various locations.

In another case, K9 Buzz assisted with a high-risk stop involving an individual suspected of carrying a firearm. During the vehicle search, K9 Buzz detected a bullet on the ground and subsequently identified a firearm, along with ammunition, concealed in the vehicle’s dashboard area.

K9s are invaluable in law enforcement as they enhance public safety and support deputies in their duties by providing superior scent detection, tracking capabilities, and assistance in critical situations.
