Have You Seen This Missing Person? 

August 21, 2024 – Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office officials report that they are asking for the public's help in locating 71-year-old Michael Moore. Michael obtained a wilderness permit on Friday, August 16 with an intended route towards Powell Lake in the Emigrant Wilderness. On Saturday, August 17, a dog, later determined to belong to Michael, was found near Forest Road 4N24 West of the Gianelli trailhead. On Monday, August 19, a backpack later confirmed to belong to Michael, was found near Forest Road 4N34, also West of the Gianelli Trailhead. Both the dog and pack are in the general direction of Dodge Ridge, West from the Gianelli Trailhead, the opposite direction of Michael's intended route. Michael's vehicle was a silver Toyota Corolla and was later confirmed to be parked near the Gianelli Trailhead.

Michael is described as being a 71-year-old male with shoulder length gray hair, gray beard, 5'6", 128 lbs. He was last reported to be wearing cut off denim shorts, a black ballcap and an unknown color shirt. We have included a picture of Michael's dog, who has already been located.

Search and Rescue personnel are currently in the area searching for Michael. Anyone who has seen Michael or knows of his whereabouts is urged to contact the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office at 209-533-5815.
