August 21, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report that shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 18, 2024, officers from the Southeast Policing District responded to 750 North Chestnut Avenue (Martin Ray Reilly Park) regarding a male subject who was bloody and appeared to have a broken arm. Upon arrival, officers found the victim, 23-year-old Jared Rogers, lying in a parking stall. Rogers had sustained multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. Initially, he was responsive as officers tended to his wounds. However, Rogers quickly became unresponsive, prompting officers to initiate CPR until relieved by EMS and Fire Department personnel. Rogers was transported to CRMC, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Homicide detectives responded and determined that an altercation occurred between Rogers and another male near a gazebo in the park. At some point, the suspect produced a weapon and stabbed Rogers several times, mortally wounding him. The suspect in this case is described as an adult Hispanic male, approximately 5'3" to 5'4" tall, with a thin build, wearing a shiny blue shirt, jeans, and glasses. Detectives are still looking for additional witnesses who may have been present during this incident.
