McLane Student Arrested, Search is on for Second Gunman
August 23, 2024 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, dispatchers received a call of shots fired near an Auto Zone store at Clinton and Cedar in Fresno. Deputies arrived and found there to be no gunshot victims.
They learned there was a disturbance between a large group of students who attend nearby McLane High School. A 16-year-old student pulled out a handgun and fired shots, causing everyone to run away. Bullets struck a parked vehicle and a building. Witnesses helped deputies by giving them descriptions of the people involved, including the gunman. About 30 minutes after the shooting, deputies arrested a person in a nearby neighborhood who matched the description of the gunman. He has been booked into juvenile hall on multiple felony charges. This appears to be a gang-related shooting.
Deputies continue to follow leads, which has developed information about a possible second boy armed with a gun. He has not yet been captured.
Deputies are working closely with Fresno Police’s School Resource Officer (SRO) at McLane High to ensure the safety of students and staff on campus. Additional officers and law enforcement resources are at and around the school on Thursday. There have been social media posts made regarding threats to McLane High School.
