August 28, 2024 – Merced Police Department officials report that on Monday August 26th, 2024, at approximately 8:57 P.M. an unidentified male in his 40’s was crossing E. Yosemite Ave. near Cordova Ave. in North Merced. A possible Toyota vehicle traveling eastbound hit the pedestrian and fled the scene. The pedestrian was left in the roadway. A Honda Civic then struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The Honda immediately pulled out of the road and stayed on scene for the police. The Honda’s driver cooperated with the investigation. The pedestrian was found deceased on scene when officers arrived.

The Traffic Division is continuing to investigate the Hit and Run. The Police Department is seeking anyone one with info or video of the collision to contact Traffic Officer C. McKeeman or Traffic Officer D. Drees.

Merced Police want to remind everyone that leaving the scene of a collision is not only a crime but causes additional hardship for the other parties or their families.
