Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 59, 99 & 140 

August 30, 2024 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 59 (SR-59), SR-99, and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through October 31, 2024.

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

STATE ROUTE 59

  • One-way traffic control from Owens Creek to Reilly Road for pavement work beginning Tuesday, September 3, through Wednesday, September 4, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control at Childs Avenue for pavement work on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Vassar Avenue to Reilly Road for pavement work on Friday, September 6, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 99

  • One-way traffic control on the Franklin Road Over-Crossing for bridge work beginning Wednesday, September 4, through Friday, September 6, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at O Street Under-Crossing for bridge work beginning Wednesday, September 4, through Friday, September 6, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full closure of R Street from State Route 99 to R Street Under-Crossing for construction work beginning Wednesday, September 4, through Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Full closure of V Street from State Route 99 to State Route 140/59 for construction work beginning Wednesday, September 4, through Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 140

  • Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
  • Long-term full closure from 5th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, at 6:00 a.m. through Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for curb and gutter work beginning Wednesday, September 4, through Friday, September 6, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
