Man Arrested After Shooting Incident Near Woodward Reservoir

September 3, 2024 – Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Sunday, September 1, 2024, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded for the report of shooting that occurred on Sonora Road in Oakdale. The incident resulted in the arrest of a 59-year-old man, and the recovery of multiple firearms, including a stolen rifle.

At about 3:30 p.m., Robert Brennan, an Oakdale resident, was visited at his residence by an adult female acquaintance. When she arrived, Brennan retrieved a rifle from the bed of his truck, and fired at least two rounds at her vehicle, damaging two tires. Thankfully, the victim was unharmed and fled the area.

While deputies were speaking with the victim on 26-Mile Road, Brennan drove by, leading to a high-risk traffic stop being conducted of him. While he surrendered to K9 Robin, deputies safely took him into custody. They did not locate any firearms in the vehicle.

Following the arrest of Brennan, a search warrant was executed at his residence, in an attempt to locate the firearm used in the incident. Four guns, two rifles and two shotguns, were collected for evidence. Brennan later admitted that he had hidden the gun used in the shooting along 26-Mile Road.

Deputies transported Brennan to the location he claimed to hide the weapon, where K9 Buzz, specially trained in detecting firearms and ammunition, successfully located a loaded M1 Carbine. A records check of the gun revealed it was previously stolen from its owner in Lodi, California.

Brennan was arrested and booked at the Stanislaus County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an occupied vehicle, resisting arrest, concealing evidence, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of a firearm with the intent to commit a felony.

This incident highlights the swift response and effectiveness of our deputies, along with invaluable assistance of our K9 unit. The effort displayed led to the rapid apprehension of a dangerous criminal, and the recovery of a stolen firearm. This case is a testament to the importance of cooperation with law enforcement to assist in ensuring the safety of residents.
