Arrest Made in Delano Drive-By that Killed Two in October 2022

September 4, 2024 – Tulare County Sheriff’s Office officials report that at around 10:00 a.m. on September 3, 2024, TCSO Homicide Detectives arrested 33-year-old Marcos Antonio Mercado of Earlimart for the 2022 murder of a 16-year-old boy and 21-year-old Ricardo Serrano, both of Delano. Two other people were shot, but both survived their injuries.

On October 10, 2022, TCSO Deputies were called to a drive-by shooting in the area of County Line Road and Road 136 in Delano.

When Deputies arrived, they found one man shot to death. Three more shooting victims showed up at the Delano Police Department shortly after. Two of the victims were airlifted to a local hospital. One of the victims died.

After physical evidence from the scene was fully processed, TCSO Homicide Detectives were able to link Mercado directly to the murders.

Mercado was booked into jail on Tuesday on two counts of Murder and two counts of Attempted Murder.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office at 559-733-6218.
