Search Warrants Executed at Eight Properties for Suspected Illegal Cannabis Operation

September 5, 2024 – Nevada City, CA – Nevada County Sheriff’s Office officials report that members of the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) Special Investigation Unit (SIU) executed eight search warrants of properties in Nevada County this past August for suspected illegal cannabis operations. Searches took place on Aug. 8, 9, 27 and 28 at six properties in Nevada City and two properties in Grass Valley with varying degrees of illegal activity noted at each property, including environmental crimes as well as 11 illegal firearms seized. In total, 11,498 illegal cannabis plants and 497.5 lbs. of processed cannabis were destroyed.

During the course of the searches, two individuals were cite-arrested at two different properties; the first cite-arrest occurred in the 20000 block of Chablis Way in Nevada City on Aug. 9 for illegal cannabis cultivation (H&S 11358(C)); the second cite-arrest occurred in the 11000 block of Cruzon Grade Rd in Nevada City on Aug. 27 for illegal cannabis cultivation (H&S 11358(C)) and for possession of a controlled substance while armed (H&S 11370.1(A)).

Two additional properties searched were found to have several environmental felony violations, including harmful chemicals into a waterway (F&G 5650); trash into a waterway (F&G 5652); harmful discharge of water (WAT 13260); and new discharge of harmful water (WAT 13264). These cases were turned over to the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office for further review.

NCSO SIU partnered with several allied agencies throughout the course of the investigations, including California Fish and Wildlife, the Department of Cannabis Compliance, Nevada County Code Compliance, Eradication and Prevention of Illicit Cannabis (EPIC) Task Force, the California Department of Water Resources, and the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office.
