Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99 & 140 

September 6, 2024 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 99 (SR-99) and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through October 31, 2024.

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

STATE ROUTE 99

  • One-way traffic control on the Franklin Road Over-Crossing for bridge work beginning Sunday, September 8, through Friday, September 13, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at Childs Avenue OverCrossing for construction work beginning Sunday, September 8, through Friday, September 13, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full on and off-ramp closures on northbound SR-99 at SR-140 E for construction work beginning Sunday, September 8, through Friday, September 13, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at 16th Street for construction work beginning Sunday, September 8, through Friday, September 13, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Full off-ramp closure on northbound SR-99 at G Street Under-Crossing for construction work beginning Sunday, September 8, through Friday, September 13, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

  • Full on-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at O Street Under-Crossing for bridge work beginning Sunday, September 8, through Friday, September 13, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • Full closure of R Street Under-Crossing at SR-99 for bridge work beginning Tuesday, September 10, through Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Full closure of V Street at SR-99 for bridge work beginning Tuesday, September 10, through Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

STATE ROUTE 140

  • Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
  • Long-term full closure from 5th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, at 6:00 a.m. through Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
  • Full closure from Fourth Street to State Route 33 West for special event on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Full closure from Fourth Street to State Route 33 West for special event beginning Sunday, September 8, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for curb and gutter work beginning Monday, September 9, through Friday, September 14, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
