September 13, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report that shortly before 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, officers from the Central Policing District responded to the 3700 block of North Abby Avenue regarding two separate Shot Spotter activations. When officers arrived, they located 35-year-old Sylvester Choi on the ground, unresponsive, with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Officers and EMS provided lifesaving measures, but unfortunately Choi was pronounced deceased on the scene.

Officers also contacted a 20-year-old female who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. EMS personnel determined her wound to be a graze wound, and she received first aid on the scene and was released. As officers were investigating the shooting, a third shooting victim was dropped off at Community Regional Medical Center. This gunshot victim, a 30-year-old male, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body but was listed in stable condition.

During their investigation, homicide detectives learned Choi and the other two victims were attending a gathering at the location, when an unknown suspect fired at the group, striking all three victims. Currently, the motive behind the shooting is unknown, and detectives are reviewing video surveillance from the surrounding area to identify the suspect. Detectives are also attempting to identify other individuals who attended the gathering who might have witnessed the shooting.
