TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 99 & 140
September 20, 2024 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 99 (SR-99) and SR-140 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through October 31, 2024.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
STATE ROUTE 99
- One-way traffic control on the Franklin Road Over-Crossing for bridge work beginning Sunday, September 22, through Friday, September 27, 2024, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- One-way traffic control on the Childs Avenue Over-Crossing for bridge work beginning Sunday, September 22, through Friday, September 27, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- Full off-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Childs Avenue Over-Crossing for bridge work beginning Sunday, September 22, through Monday, September 23, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
- Full on-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at R Street Under-Crossing for bridge work beginning Monday, September 23, through Friday, September 27, 2024, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
STATE ROUTE 140
- Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
- Long-term full closure from 5th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, at 6:00 a.m. through Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at 5:00 p.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
