September 23, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report on recent threats against area FPD school threatsschools.

Threats made to harm students are taken very seriously, regardless of if the suspect intended to carry out the act. The fear that is created by the social media posts is unacceptable, and when identified, the suspects will be charged for the crime.

There have been several incidents this month involving students making threats to commit shootings at schools. These incidents were investigated and have led to the arrest of the offending students.

  • On September 17, 2024, a 17-year-old student was arrested for threating to commit a shooting at Justin Garza High School.
  • On September 13, a 13-year-old was arrested for threatening to shoot his teacher after being told to put his cell phone away.
  • On September 10, 2024, a 13-year-old student was arrested for threatening to commit a shooting at Scandinavian Middle School.
  • On September 5, 2024, a 14-year-old student was arrested for threatening to commit a shooting at Ahwahnee Middle School.

The Fresno Police Department is committed to ensuring the safety of all of our community members. This includes the safety of our children as they attend school.

We will continue to work hand in hand with all of our school district partners, quickly and diligently investigating every threat, and holding those who commit the crimes responsible for creating the needless fear.

We ask that when you are made aware of a social media post of a local threat, contact the Fresno Police Department by calling (559) 621-7000. Please do not repost the threat to social media.
