February 23, 2016 - The Merced Police Department reports on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 2:16 P.M. the Merced Police Department responded to the 100 block of W 18th St. for a shots fired call. 

The victim reported that gang members shot at him with a gun. The suspects fled the scene and officers were unable to locate them. The Gang Violence Suppression Unit (GVSU) responded to investigate and they developed charles miles merced police departmentinformation that gang member, Charles Miles, 20,  was involved in the shooting. Mr. Miles was later identified as the suspect involved in this case. A Ramey warrant was issued for his arrest. 

On Friday, February 19, 2016 officers initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 1200 block of N St. During the traffic stop, Charles Miles ran from the vehicle. GVSU officers responded and set a perimeter around the area with the patrol division. Mr. Miles was apprehended shortly after the perimeter was initiated and arrested for the warrant. GVSU officers interviewed him and he admitted to shooting at the victim with his gun. 

He was booked at the Merced County Jail for attempt homicide, resisting arrest and gang enhancements.
