October 5, 2024 – Sonora Police Department officials report that a Columbia man was arrested for Sonora PD logoattempted murder.

On October 3rd, at approximately 9:30 A.M., Officers were dispatched to a physical altercation at the Woods Creek Park in Sonora. Officers arrived on scene and were able to contact the two people that were involved and they were not actively fighting when Officers arrived on scene.

During the investigation, Officers learned that the two subjects were known to each other and got into an argument about a past incident.  Officers learned that 30-year-old Nicholas Goodwin of Columbia produced a knife and attempted to stab the victim. The victim was able to fight off the knife attack and Goodwin picked up a PVC pipe and struck victim several times while making criminal threats.

Goodwin was subsequently arrested without incident and booked him on the charge of attempted murder and was booked at the Tuolumne County Jail. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.  This case remains an active investigation.
