TRAFFIC ADVISORY
Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures
Interstate 5 and State Routes 33, 99, 140, and 165
October 6, 2024 – MERCED COUNTY – – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route 33 (SR-33), SR-99, SR-140, and SR-165 for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:
INTERSTATE 5
- Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 through May 31, 2025.
o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).
STATE ROUTE 33
- One-way traffic control from the California Aqueduct to the Delta Mendota Canal for survey work on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
STATE ROUTE 99
- Full on-ramp closure on southbound SR-99 at Shanks Road Over-Crossing for graffiti removal on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
STATE ROUTE 140
- Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 3:00 p.m.
Long-term full closure from 5th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.
STATE ROUTE 165
- Full highway closure from Geer Avenue to American Avenue for the Annual Hilmar High School Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 11, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
