Calaveras Fugitive Arrested in Stockton
October 10, 2024 – Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on October 9th, at approximately 4:00 p.m., the 
U.S. Marshals Service Task Force, in a coordinated multi-agency effort, successfully apprehended a Calaveras County fugitive, Johnny Miller (Age 34 and resident of West Point). He was located and apprehended at a property in the 8900 Block of Highway 88 in Stockton.
Miller was wanted for charges of attempted murder, carjacking, and several other violent felonies stemming from joint investigations conducted by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office. A warrant was issued due to a violent incident in the West Point area in August. The Calaveras Sheriff’s Office and California Highway Patrol worked closely with the Calaveras County District Attorney’s Office on the investigation to obtain the arrest warrant. The U.S. Marshals Service Task Force was contacted to assist in Miller's apprehension, which was considered a high priority, given the serious nature of the charges against him.
The U.S. Marshals Service Task Force surveilled Miller at the Highway 88 address in combination with air support from the Stockton Police Department and the California Highway Patrol. Several other agencies, including the San Joaquin AB109 Task Force, San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office SWAT, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s Special Service Unit, and the Delta Regional Auto Theft Task Force, assisted in apprehending Miller. Miller attempted to flee the area on foot while holding what appeared to be a firearm. With coordinated efforts of the perimeter units, Miller was intercepted and ultimately surrendered without further incident. No injuries were reported during the operation.
Miller was transported and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail and will be transferred to the Calaveras County Jail to face charges related to attempted first-degree murder, assault with a firearm, shooting at an occupied motor vehicle, carjacking, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, unlawful possession of ammunition, and additional firearm-related charges.
This arrest emphasizes the importance of these specialized teams and the value of collaboration across multiple law enforcement agencies.
