October 12, 2024 – The Fall Trout Derby at Lake McSwain last weekend saw some phenomenal fishing as anglers reeled in impressive catches and enjoyed the thrill of competition.

The tournament, managed through the FishDonkey smartphone app, had more than 200 participants. Ahead of the derby, the lake was stocked with 4,000 pounds of trout, ensuring plenty of action for all skill levels. The event ran from 6 a.m. on Saturday to noon on Sunday.

“This is always such a special event for our anglers,” said MID Parks and Recreation Director Brooke Gutierrez. “It’s great to see families and friends coming together, enjoying not just the fishing, but the amazing scenery and camaraderie that Lake McSwain offers.”

Winners:
• Ethan Ochoa – Largest Trout: 23.75 inches – $2,000
• Jorge Lopez – Stringer of 3 Trout: 22.50, 22, and 21 inches for a combined 65.50 inches – $2,000
• Mounir Alkhouri – Adult Wild Card Trout: 20.5 inches – $500
• Brandon Yee – Kids Wild Card Trout: 16 inches – fishing pole and tackle box (Sponsored by Splash N Dash and the Reel Deal Market and Café at Lake McSwain)
