Properly Stacked Chipping Pile

The Mariposa County Fire Safe Council understands that some Mariposa County residents are in dire need of assistance with creating and maintaining their required 100’ defensible space clearances. We currently offer assistance with the chipping of properly piled and cut woody debris to Mariposa residents.

We also offer assistance with brushing within the defensible space to Mariposa residents who are physically or financially unable to create or maintain 100’ clearance around their homes as mandated by CA PRC 4291.

The Mariposa County Fire Safe Council can help assist qualified residents with the chipping of tree limbs, shrubs, and other woody debris within their defensible space.  If you pile your large hazardous debris along a route of ingress/egress as described below, the Fire Safe Council will chip your hazardous debris for free.

Please see the guidelines for our program below, if piles and not piled correctly the Fire Safe Council cannot chip them.

  • All cut parts of the limb must face outwards towards the driveway or road.

  • All piles must be within 10 feet of a roadway.

  • All limbs must be no wider than 5 feet, Piles can be any length.

  • Piles must be no higher than 4 feet and free of any trash or metal.

  • All limbs must be 6 inches in diameter or less.

For assistance with chipping or brushing of your hazardous debris at no cost please contact the Fire Safe Council at: 209-966-7700. Funding provided by a grant from the Cooperative Funding Program of the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, Pacific Southwest Region, through the California Fire Safe Council.
