Fleeing Gang Member Crashes Vehicle, Kills Two People

FCSO crash
October 18, 2024 – Fresno County Sheriff's Office officials report that Deputies have arrested 18-year-old Adam Canales of Fresno. He has been booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of evading police and vehicular manslaughter. He is also facing an infraction for driving with alcohol in his system and being under 21 years old.

FCSO crash sisters
Canales is responsible for the deaths of two women who were sisters. They are identified as 25-year-old Mang Yang and 18-year-old Eliza Yang.

At 9:47 p.m. on Wednesday, Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium (MAGEC) were conducting proactive patrols in southeast Fresno. While near Verrue Avenue and Eighth Street, deputies witnessed a disturbance between a group of possible gang members. As deputies drove closer, one of the men got into a white Chevy Tahoe and sped away, running a stop sign. A deputy turned on his light and siren to make a traffic stop. The driver, later identified as Adam Canales, refused to pull over. Canales sped up Eighth Street and across Nevada Avenue. The deputy was behind Canales for a total of 27 seconds before witnessing him run a stop sign, crossing over Cedar Avenue, crashing through a fence and into a house. Canales got out of his vehicle and ran from the scene.

As the deputy ran after Canales, assisting deputies and police officers setup a perimeter around the neighborhood to search for this suspect. Firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the home to check on people inside. There they discovered two women who had been killed as a result of the wrecked vehicle.

FCSO crash 1
At 10:00 p.m., with the help of Fresno Police’s helicopter AIR 1, deputies were guided to a home on the 4500 block of E. Ball Ave. There deputies found Canales who surrendered to them. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation and then booked into jail. Law enforcement is familiar with Canales. He is a known gang member who is currently on probation for possession of a firearm.

Due to the crash happening in a city location, the Fresno Police Department is handling this portion of the investigation.
