October 21, 2024 – CAL FIRE officials issue public fire safety reminder on how to stay safe this Halloween season.

Spooky decorations can be scary, but fire safety shouldn’t be. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), from 2018 to 2022, decorations caused an average of 835 home fires each year, leading to tragic losses and $14 million in property damage. Nearly half of these fires started because decorations were placed too close to heat sources.

To keep Halloween fun and safe, remember to keep decorations away from candles, hot lights, or any heat sources. Ensure that exits are clear and check your smoke alarms. Let's prioritize safety this Halloween!
