October 25, 2024 – Calaveras County Sheriff's Office officials report that on October 20, 2024, at about midnight, a Calaveras County patrol sergeant and his K-9 partner conducted a traffic enforcement stop near the intersection of Highway 12 and Wards Avenue in Wallace, CA. Upon contact, the sergeant discovered that the driver, Chad Nathaniel Hixson, age 42, of Lodi, was on probation with a restricted driver’s license that allowed him to travel to and from work only. The sergeant confirmed the suspect was not driving under these restrictions and was instead in the area visiting friends.

Suspect Hixson was detained outside the vehicle while the sergeant utilized his partner, canine Deputy Titan, to search the exterior of the vehicle. During the search, Deputy Titan indicated the presence of narcotics near the front passenger’s door. The sergeant conducted a further search, locating a grey backpack containing drug paraphernalia and usable quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine. The sergeant also located a loaded handgun, additional ammunition for the handgun, and additional drug paraphernalia throughout the interior of the car. In total, approximately 3.3 grams of suspected Fentanyl was located.

Suspect Hixson was transported to the Calaveras County jail and charged with several felonies, including prohibited person in possession of a firearm, prohibited person in possession of ammunition, possession of controlled substance for sale, transportation of narcotics, and various misdemeanor charges.
