What You Need to Know: California is embracing renewable energy and investing in workers at the center of this change. The Employment Development Department has awarded another grant from the $30 million Displaced Oil and Gas Workers Fund to help workers find stable, good-paying jobs.

October 26, 2024 - SACRAMENTO – The Employment Development Department (EDD) awarded another grant from the $30 million Displaced Oil and Gas Worker Fund to help displaced workers transition to good-paying jobs, including opportunities in renewable energy. The latest grant awarded to the Corporation for a Skilled Workforce (CSW) will fund approximately $1 million in technical assistance and coaching for impacted workers.

Earlier this year, EDD awarded nearly $27 million to organizations that help oil and gas workers build skills in new industries from the Dislocated Oil and Gas Worker Fund. Last month the California Workforce Development Board also announced a $7 million solicitation to provide on-the-job training for oil well capping in Kern and Los Angeles Counties. Other assistance programs include rapid response funding, dislocated worker funding, and additional assistance programs.

The CSW has provided workforce development services to the State of California for two decades – working with local workforce boards, evaluating America’s Job Center of CaliforniaSM locations, and giving technical assistance to local partners. CSW will work directly with grantees to provide program coaching and consultation, deliver specialized technical assistance, and foster collaborations between organizations to ensure ongoing learning and continuous improvement.

"CSW is excited to contribute to the Displaced Oil and Gas Worker Fund project in supporting highly skilled workers make equitable transitions to new quality jobs and career pathways,” said Kysha Wright Frazier, President & CEO of CSW. “We look forward to working with all of the program grantees to create opportunities assisting oil and gas workers through a pivotal shift in their careers."
