November 5, 2024 – Merced County Sheriff's Office officials report that the Merced County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide that took place at the Merced County Main Jail late yesterday evening. Deputies responded promptly to an incident involving an inmate found unresponsive in their cell. Despite immediate efforts by on-site medical personnel, deputies, and first responders to administer lifesaving measures, the inmate was later pronounced deceased.

The decedent has been identified as 26-year-old Edward Ramos. Investigators are collaborating closely with the Merced County District Attorney’s Office and anticipate filing charges against multiple individuals believed to be involved in the incident.
