March 5, 2016 - The Merced Police Department reports on Wednesday Afternoon, March 2, 2016, the Merced Police Department’s Gang Violence Suppression Unit (GVSU) located Michael Salazar, 56,  who had a felony warrant michael salazar merced police departmentfor his arrest on Bell Drive in Atwater.

Officers tried to arrest him and he sped away in his vehicle at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit ensued and GVSU officers along with other allied law enforcement agencies engaged in a vehicle pursuit with Mr. Salazar. 

Michael Salazar evaded officers in the vehicle pursuit driving his car recklessly through the cities of Atwater, Livingston and Delhi northbound on Highway 99. The pursuit ended southbound on Highway 99 in Delhi where he crashed his car in a ditch on the side of the freeway. 

He then ran from his car and officers gave chase. Mr. Salazar was captured a short distance away and taken into custody. 

michael salazar merced police department drugsOfficers searched the suspect’s car and located over 2 ounces of packaged methamphetamine, a baggy of marijuana and a scale. 

Michael Salazar was arrested for felony evading, possession of narcotics for sale, resisting arrest and a felony warrant.
