As deputies were responding, the caller reported that she had heard a gunshot and thought her husband had a shotgun. While deputies were still on their way to the residence, the caller reported she had heard more gunshots. The caller told deputies she thought her estranged husband was suicidal and may shoot himself.
Once they arrived, the deputies could not immediately locate the suspect, he had ran into a wooded area behind the house. Deputies could hear him yelling and heard several gunshots. The CHP helicopter, H40, as well as a Mariposa Sheriff’s K9 unit and several CHP Officers responded to assist and deputies also drove the Madera County Sheriff’s armored vehicle to the scene for added protection as they searched for the suspect.
The suspect was eventually located by the CHP helicopter crew near Road 612 and Red Hawk Lane, the helicopter crew guided the deputies, CHP Officers, and the Mariposa K9 unit to the suspect where he was safely taken into custody.
A 12 gauge shotgun, several knives, and a hatchet were recovered.
The suspect, Lucas Caleb Roduner, was booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections and will be charged with felony vandalism and Reckless Discharge of a Firearm.
