The Integration Bee is a competitive event in which students test their math skills against their peers.
According to Math professor and event organizer Kristen Rieg, calculus students at Merced College will take a one hour qualifying test from which the top 16 students will be chosen. These 16 students will go on to compete in a round robin style competition where they will face off at the white board to see who can integrate the fastest.
In addition to the Integration Bee, Merced College will host a competition open to all local high school students. This test is designed to challenge students with a profound knowledge of algebra and geometry.
“After the tests are over, we will celebrate with lunch and a scavenger hunt,” Rieg said. “At noon we will begin the live action Integration Bee during which we will be awarding prizes and holding a raffle thanks to generous donations from many community businesses.”
