December 11, 2024 – Fresno Police Department officials report that on December 8, 2024, at 5:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to assist with a residential house fire in the area of Holland Avenue and Cecilia Avenue, where neighbors reported smoke from the home with occupants inside. Neighbors saw smoke coming from the home and knew an elderly female lived inside.

Neighbors broke the front window into the living room. Two neighbors worked to enter the residence through the broken window. One of the neighbors located the elderly female in her room and began dragging her toward the front window. He was overcome by smoke and exited the residence. Officers arrived and observed the female inside the living room near the window. One officer entered the home, and together, they all were able to get the female out of the burning house through the window.

Fire personnel on the scene arrived and put out the fire, they are investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire Personnel Stated that if the neighbor and officers had not entered the residence to remove the elderly occupant, she likely would not have survived.
