Critical Incident Video Release
December 16, 2024 – Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials announce they are publicly releasing a Critical Incident Video containing footage from a Deputy-Involved Shooting which occurred on November 20, 2024.
At 3:50 p.m. on November 20th the Madera County Sheriff's Office received a report of multiple vehicle hit and runs near Highway 49 and Highway 41 in Oakhurst.
The caller was reporting on a white Toyota 4runner driven by 41-year-old Allen Williams of Mariposa.
Williams was aggressively driving through a business park and behind a shopping center before driving south on Highway 41. The 9-1-1 caller continued to follow Williams and provided updated information on his location. Williams turned off onto a dirt road and drove into a field where he rammed into the 9-1-1 caller’s vehicle for a second time. Williams then continued south on Hwy. 41 and turned north onto Road 425B. The 9-1-1 caller was still following and reported Williams hit a delivery truck. Williams continued driving north towards Oakhurst. Deputies were driving south on Road 425B in the direction of Williams. When their paths converged, Williams turned off of the road into a driveway, exited his vehicle, and ran while armed with a shotgun.
As deputies exited their vehicles telling the suspect to “Stop running, or you’re going to get bit.” Williams did not comply and kept running with the deputies and K9 Obie in pursuit. When K9 Obie closed the distance, Williams turned around and fired his shotgun, shooting Obie. One deputy gave Williams multiple commands to drop his gun. Both deputies then discharged their weapons and the suspect fell to the ground, dropping his shotgun. The deputies provided medical aid until the arrival of paramedics. Williams was transported by helicopter to a Fresno hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery.
At the time of the incident, Williams was on probation out of Mariposa County with several active felony warrants including for felony assault with a deadly weapon.
Upon his release from the hospital, he faces the following additional charges:
Two felony counts of pc 245(d)(1) - assault with a firearm on a peace officer three felony counts of PC 245(a)(1) - assault with a deadly weapon one felony count of pc 600 - malicious harm of a police K9 one felony count of PC 29800 - prohibited person in possession of a firearm one felony count of PC 30305 - prohibited person in possession of ammunition one felony count of PC 496d(a) - possession of stolen property obtained through extortion one felony count of VC 10851 - vehicle theft.
Plus, there are two special allegations alleging the defendant has had two prior felony strikes.
K9 Obie was rushed to an emergency animal hospital in Fresno. X-rays showed K9 Obie was riddled with shotgun pellets, but after extensive rehabilitation he is expected to make a full recovery.
No uninvolved citizens or deputies were injured in this incident. An independent investigation of this incident is being conducted by the Madera Police Department. As is with all deputy-involved shootings, an internal administrative investigation will be conducted to determine conformance with department policy. All deputy-involved shootings are reviewed by the Madera County District Attorney, who conducts a legal analysis as to whether the deputy’s actions were lawful under the circumstances. The conclusion of the District Attorney is pending.
