Rest Area, Lane & Ramp Closures 
Interstate 5 and State Route 140 

December 19, 2024 – MERCED COUNTY – The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform various closures on Interstate 5 (I-5), and State Route 140 (SR-140) for maintenance and construction operations. Work is scheduled to occur as follows:

INTERSTATE 5

  • Full closure of the John C. Erreca Rest Areas on northbound and southbound I-5 beginning Monday, April 4, 2022, through May 31, 2025.

o ALTERNATE LOCATIONS: Motorists are advised to use the Coalinga-Avenal Rest Area (Fresno/Kings County line).

STATE ROUTE 140

  • One-way traffic control from Linden Avenue to the Gustine Railroad Crossing for sidewalk work beginning Monday, December 23, through Tuesday, December 24, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Long-term one-way traffic control at the Los Banos Creek for bridge work beginning Monday, August 5, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.
  • Long-term full closure from 5th Street to Fifth Avenue in Gustine for construction work beginning Monday, April 22, at 6:00 a.m. through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 6:00 a.m.

Motorists should expect 5-10 minute delays and use alternate routes whenever possible. This work is scheduled to take place as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment, and/or construction related issues.
