Flood Watch In Effect From Tuesday Morning Through Tuesday Afternoon

December 23, 2024 - National Weather Service Hanford Office officials report a Flood Watch has been issued for the Mariposa Madera Foothills-Mariposa-Madera Lower Sierra-Fresno- Tulare Foothills-Fresno-Tulare Lower Sierra-South End Sierra Foothills-South End of the Lower Sierra-Yosemite Valley-San Joaquin River Canyon-Kern River Valley-Piute Walker Basin.

Including the cities of Auberry, Bass Lake, Oakhurst, Kernville, Mariposa, Camp Nelson, North Fork, Lake Isabella, Fish Camp, Millerton Lake, El Portal, Coarsegold, and Yosemite Valley.

Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.

The Sierra Nevada Foothills below the snowline are forecast to see heavy rainfall. Burn scars such as the French, Basin, Lightning Complex, Coffee Pot, and Borel have the potential for Debris Flow Flooding.

From Tuesday morning through Tuesday afternoon.

Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Debris flows over burn scars will be possible. 

A storm system with a chance of rainfall rates up to three quarters of an inch an hour may cause Flash Flooding tomorrow morning and through early tomorrow afternoon - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
