To celebrate this mathematical function and math in general, Ms. Contreras’ 7th-8th graders at Sierra Foothill Charter School ran a Mathematics (Pi Day) carnival on Monday, March 14. For every game students played, they won star stickers to earn pieces of pie. This is one of the few times per year the school gives out sweets on campus, in accordance with its Wellness Policy.
Students love this annual math carnival.
SFCS thanks Pioneer Market for donating half the pies and selling the rest to the school at cost.
Gabe Specht helps Reese Evans estimate how much various items weigh, and then checks the actual weights on a scale.
Ellie Sexton adds up a variety of items in a "store" to earn a star to put towards a piece of pie.
Spencer Baumann asks Khloe Reynolds how many inches tall she estimates the size of her head to be and then measures to let her know how close the actual length is to her estimation.
Tucker Knauf waits his turn to guess how many plastic eggs are in the container.
Malachi Shelton enjoys a piece of pie, his reward for turning in a scorecard full of stars earned at the various math stations.
