December 25, 2024 – Sonora Police Department officials report that 40-year-old James Gimenez of Sonora was arrested for public intoxication and misdemeanor battery, and 22-year-old Jared Peau, also of Sonora, was arrested for public intoxication and felony battery early Sunday morning.
On December 22, 2024, shortly after 2:00 a.m., Sonora Police Officers responded to the area of 64 N. Washington Street for a physical disturbance outside of the bar involving several people. Upon the officer's arrival, Peau and Gimenez attempted to walk away but were quickly detained.
Officers learned that Peau and Gimenez were the primary aggressors and that, at one point, Peau allegedly "stomped" and kicked a victim about the face/head while he was on the ground. At the time of the report, two victims were identified with injuries. One of the victims sustained serious injuries as a result of the assault.
Gimenez and Peau were arrested and booked on their respective charges.
It is important to remember that individuals identified herein were arrested on suspicion of the crimes for which they have been charged. All such charges are merely accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. This principle is fundamental to our legal system and should be respected by all.
