March 19, 2016 - On Friday, March 18, 2016 the Madera Irrigation District (District or MID) received its first allocation since 2013 from the United States Bureau of Reclamation (USBR).  This special allocation will allow Madera Irrigation District to begin water deliveries to all areas of the District beginning as early as March 25, 2016.

“MID’s Board of Directors and staff are extremely encouraged by this initial allocation of water.  We are excited about the ability to deliver surface water throughout our District after many years with extremely limited supplies.  MID hopes all District growers take advantage of this opportunity to utilize high quality surface water, helping to reduce the strain on the groundwater aquifer.” stated Thomas Greci, General Manager.

Madera Irrigation District is currently accepting Crop Water Applications and will begin accepting water orders on Monday, March 21, 2016.  The MID Board of Directors set a competitive water rate to encourage all users to begin taking deliveries, $120 per acre foot for Original District users and $240 per acre foot for Subordinate users.  The District is urging all growers with the ability to take surface water to do so between now and April 30, 2016 as the extent of this water season is unknown; there is high likelihood that the cost and availability of water could change as of May 1, 2016 due to USBR operations.
